Maid of Honor...or...well, made of something
2008-Sep-20, Saturday 01:30 pmHoly Crow, and Super Pig! S’been a while…um, updates are…Ike was terrible in the way the Rita was terrible. Gustav and Ike were very much like Katrina and Rita. Gustav had terribly high winds and storm surge, but Ike had a storm surge too! And the rain! Half of my backyard was underwater. My yard almost dried up, but then more rain came yesterday…so yeah. Back to the mud pit takes on a whole different meaning.
Power, running water and internet…we have that, but no cable still. Some people have gotten it back, but my cable’s pretty much been out since the 1st. There’s nothing to really do about it, because the crews are working as hard as they can and as fast as they can...it’s just an annoying dilemma. I totally missed the first episode of Supernatural, and I’m hesitant to buy it on iTunes...I bought all of season 3 on iTunes, and even if it made it easy for me to catch the episodes I missed, I still was a little less enthusiastic about the 3rd seasons box set when I actually got it. I haven’t gotten the second season of Heroes yet either (trying to save money) either…I know I’m going to miss the third season opener – or at least I’m preparing myself for that since I don’t think I’ll have cable by then. /sigh. what a mess these hurricanes are.
I finally placed an order with Amazon.com the other day (I had a $24 gift certificate too…which…I don’t understand, but thanks to whoever got that for me!). So now, my list of gifts has included Scamp’s Birthday and Christmas presents (which I’ve had for a long time now), Part of Dad’s Christmas present, Jen-Lyn’s birthday and Christmas presents (I got more than one, so I just figure I’ll call them both) and Chibi’s Birthday Present. I still need to buy Christmas presents for Mom, Chibi and Reiko...But, I’m working on it.
Big dent in my money – Reiko called me yesterday saying she’d found a shop in New Orleans (or somewhere) that had her perfect wedding dress and perfect bride’s maid dresses. I needed to call them, before 4 pm that day, and give them my measurements in order to not have a rush order and pay $40 more. Oh, and of course, it’s my job to throw the bachelorett party…which would be just fine if that meant that I had to invite girls over, decorate my house, and put on Supernatural, but I have this bad feeling that Reiko will want alcohol involved, and I’m not up on buying booze so…yeah. I may just buy the decorations I was looking at and tell everyone BYOB if you must. Pull out the futon and air mattresses and let everyone sleep over…….oh, also, I’m designing her wedding invitations. I’ve done it before, but never someone who was so important to me. I really hope I can give her what she wants.
Dad finally came in from offshore. What a fiasco that was. I’ve never hated a company so much in my whole life. He had been told to drive to Lafayette, LA when Lafayette was being evacuated thanks to Gustav, right? Well, they rerouted him to Houston, TX, and flew him out to Mexico from there. When he come in, they brought him to New Orleans, then fueled up the plain again to fly him to Memphis, TN (Quoi?) and then back to Lafayette, LA, where he had to catch a hot-shot drive to Houston, TX………….WTF, People!? Seriously! Is that not crazy? He finally called me around 10 pm Monday night saying that he was safely at his truck in Houston, and that he’d be driving over to my place. I told him I’d leave the door unlocked for him. It’s a good thing I did, because he didn’t get in till about 3 am.
He spent the next two days helping me buy some groceries (my fridge was virtually bare), mowing the lawn, fixing busted pipes, and mending the roof to both our houses. I mentioned to him about this printer I’ve been having my eye on. It’s the Kodak EasyShare 5500, which I’d seen advertised one day. Sure it’s a great printer and everything, but what really got me interested in it was the fact that the black ink cartridge is $9.99 and the color is like $14.99 – together you can get them for $22.99. And that’s an amazing savings right there. Plus it’s a superior printing product. So, after I’d told him about it (Because I knew Mom needed a new printer too) he says, “Well, you’ve got my credit card. Why don’t you just put it on the credit card and buy that?” So that’s my birthday present from my parents. Thanks, Mom and Dad!
A couple of nights ago, I read a lot of the Twilight saga before bed. Then I had a dream about it...and it wouldn’t go away. So, I decided to write a Twilight fan fic…Which is both wonderful and terrible at the same time. If only I could channel my inspiration and just work on my original story! But, alas! I must write within a world of hot vampires and werewolves…../sarcasm. woe unto me. I’m surprised at how quickly it’s coming though...maybe because I’m making myself get into the characters and stare at the computer screen…really flushing out what I want from this story and who the characters are and all that jazz. I have 2 chapters and one prologue...it’s all small stuff…but then again that last little fic I wrote about my and my cousin’s WoW characters was small too….maybe I’m expecting too much of myself. Maybe I should focus on smaller chapters. /shrug. who knows. Either way, at least my creativity is going and not dead.
Work’s been work….it has actually been somewhat bearable if only because it’s all-consuming. I work on a mountain of files and don’t notice what time it is for hours. I find myself saying things like, “Whoa…it’s already 12 (3, 5)?” It’s actually pretty awesome. Oh, and you know what else is awesome? For the week of the 1st through the 5th (you know, when Gustav hit and power was out and all that?) my boss is paying us without taking away from our vacation/sick time. How cool is that? My bosses rock.
….what else is there to talk about? Hmm….well, I finally got back on WoW the other night…well, night before too. I got together with my cousin and we did some RP. But last night, I took Agaruwen to ….wherever she was before I stopped playing =..= I don’t even remember the name of the place! I might’ve played for about an hour...just doing the quests she had and all. But without anyone there to talk to, it’s sort of boring, so...it wasn’t long before I called it a night. Still. At least I’m playing a bit.
…Kinda feel a little pleased with myself. I woke up this morning, put on a pot of coffee, swept my kitchen, washed the dishes and set the clothes to washing….now, I really should go and have some breakfast =..=
Later, Sunshines.

Triumph and Frustration
2007-Sep-25, Tuesday 01:16 pm
So, my house is so next to finished, it’s not even funny. My Dad’s supposed to finishing the base boards and shave some of the bottom of the door off so that it doesn’t drag along the floor, thus messing up my new floors. That’d be great. After that is done...I think that’s all till the house is ready for me to just move in. That’s good. Though I still have no idea when I’ll be moved in, though my best guess would be sometime between today and Monday ^..^ nice and broad; gives us a chance to screw up at something, repair it and then move on.
/random. I wonder if I could make my own forum and put it on lock so that only certain people could join and post….that would be most ideal.
Last night….I tried to watch Heroes. It was the season premier…and don’t you know, the NFL decided to have a Moday game. So instead of watching my show, I got to watch the Saints loose. Fan-Figgin-Tastic. I was so pissed at that…but I think they’re going to show it again Saturday. /sigh.
/random #2. I confess, that I don’t feel comfortable looking at anyone while I’m eating boudin. I know it’s not that I’m doing anything bad, but the way you eat it is so…well…almost obscene. I have to stare off at something else and not look at anyone...
And my brain is so fried that I can’t think of anything else to write about. I guess that means there’s nothing else to write about. Later, Sunshines.

Does it look like I care?
2007-Sep-17, Monday 01:08 pm
Sunday, I made myself go to church with Mom because I had missed last Sunday. I find Mom tends to get discouraged if I miss so many Sundays in a row, so I try to keep track of what I may’ve missed. I never go to Sunday School anymore, since Brian left it seems the dynamic of his class went with him. I went to SS twice and it was too drastic a change for me. I hate to sound condescending, but they’re way too slow and they make lesions that I’ve been hearing all my life. It’s just...it puts me into a coma. And I can’t stand it. Then I found out the teacher they’ve officially let take over the class...is a man that I cannot learn from at all. He says snarky little comments like “Some of you will get this sometime next week.” Like we’re too stupid to understand what he’s saying. /sighs. Anyway.
Every Sunday morning (that I go to church), I sit on the last row all the way on the right side. It consists of 3 chairs and is very comfortable when no one sits with me. My claustrophobia tends to kick in when too many people are too close to me, so I kinda need that. I can take someone sitting on the other side with a chair between us, I just don’t like that row to be too full. But for the last month and a half, a couple have come to church, and crowded onto my row…even though there are at least 15 spare seats in front of me. If it was just that they crowded me, I wouldn’t be overly peeved, but they hold conversations, during service and stare at me whenever they’re bored. That bothers me. So, this Sunday, I took one of the chairs on that row, and put it all the way back into the corner, behind the last row. People joked that I’d “put myself in the corner”, but I was free from those annoying people. This time, the woman came with another female friend and her son…he couldn’t have been older than 3. And he pitched a fit towards the end of song service because he wanted to go home. At first I thought he woman would straighten him out and just stay…but she didn’t. She gathered up her stuff and left…I hate brats.
Moving on from that. After writing a bit in church (I ended up writing more information (which is good!) and a tiny bit more onto the first chapter), church was over and Mom and I realized that Grandmere Calla wasn’t feeling good. So she couldn’t go out to eat with us, but we still needed a game plan. We decided to go to Popeye’s because Mom was craving chicken. We ordered a four piece chicken meal for me and a five piece strip meal for Mom with a corn on the cob and a large side of mashed potatoes and gravey. Mom got red beans & rice for her side and I got mashed potatoes for mine. We waited...and waited…and after 25 minutes, she gave us part of our order. We asked if we could have our drinks while we waited for the rest of it. She said sure we were just waiting on our strips...we waited, and waited...and after about 10 more minutes of waiting, the lady up front asked one of the ladies in back what the hold up was. Oh, she thought she’d already given us the strips. Well she fixed the strips really quickly and then handed it to us and we were gone. We got home and unloaded. I opened up the first box, it was strips. I gave that to Mom. I opened up the second box...and...it was strips…O..o /le sigh. Well, I didn’t have my little mashed potatoes, but we still had the large side right? So I open that up…and it’s red beans and rice =____= So, the only way they could’ve screwed up our order more was to just not give it to us, I suppose. Mom said she’s gonna be so sick of chicken by the time this is done.
Oh, you know those Dragon Ornaments I told ya’ll I’d purchased? Well, I haven’t heard any word about them yet, but I was looking around on that site and man, they got some neat stuff. I don’t think I’d want to get any more dragon ornaments, because it’d really take away from the ones I already bought, but I did notice these Fairy Ornaments that I love. Alas, I don’t think I’ll be able to buy them yet (there are too many more important expensise that I have to pay attention to right now (like getting a new faucet for my sink and bathroom and buying a new toilet and a roomba or automatic vacuume, ah geeze). But it is good to have them in mind for later. I also found these ornaments on Amazon called Bell Crystal Ornaments. They’re pretty and a lot more simple. Even though they’re insanely expensive, I hope to one day have the Nene Thomas Fairy Moon …someday.
I am now…extremely sleepy which is only a tad different from what I was before I ate. So I’m gonna go ahead finish this entry and my lunch before I fall asleep. Later, Sunshines.

Dissappointing and Genki
2007-Sep-15, Saturday 11:55 pm
We ate, watched The Soup, Mom hated it because of Chris Crocker and his Britney Spears obsession...man...Although I did enjoy Seth Green’s impersonation of him on the show. Anyway, we got ready, Mom checked in with the Floor Dude to see what it was he’d need (because he said he needed something). We went to Home Depot and finally found it, though not quite the way he wanted it. He needed T molding and stair molding; it was sold together, just not in the same dimensions he’d given us. So we had to compensate. We shopped for groceries and things I might need for the house and then we were home…
...and they were gone. Floor Dude had vacated, and only done a small part of my downstairs living room. Don’t get me wrong, it looks great...but he’d only gotten there maybe at 9:30 and we got back around 12 something. So why’d he leave early? Mom said he’d mentioned that he might not be done till Monday. Seems today is his 1 year anniversary, and he and his wife met in New Orleans and she wanted to go back to celebrate. So we did the only thing we could do. We left the molding in the house and just went back home. We ate and watched a bit of TV...but I wasn’t feeling great, so we took a break to rest…unfortunately, bloody hell week is keeping me up.
Reiko called. She said she had a cold and had gone in to the doctor to get medicine, when they noticed something. Her heart rate was off. So they decided to do an EKG to see if there were any problems. It turns out her left atrium is swollen (at least that’s what she said). They said that since her family has a long history of heart disease (namely her dad’s side), it would be wise to check it out before it becomes serious. So she’s trying to quite smoking (because the doctor told her that stopping might help the swelling to go down. I’ve only been reminding her of the link between heart diseases and cigarettes since I found out that she smokes), and she was proud to tell me that she’d only smoked one cigarette today. I was very proud of her because she does smoke a lot, and I do worry for her.
Mom asked if there was a good movie I had that we hadn’t seen that we could watch. I told her I still had The Holiday, and though neither of us like a lot of sex in a movie, that one was so good, we were able to see past it. I know sex is a part of life and all, but we all know what happens behind closed doors right? Just imply it, don’t paint us a picture. Either way we almost ate a whole jar of Tostitoes chips and dip while we watched...although I must admit, I was responsible for most of it disappearing.
Anyway, after that, we went and sat on the patio. Then, we went in and I convinced Mom to watch the first episode of Heroes...she loved it. I think it’s not so much that she loves it, but she got interested in what would happen next, and the show is great at cutting the individual story lines just when you want to know what will happen. Man, they know how to hook you. We watched the first disc and 3 out of the 4 episodes on the second. I just hope we can finish before the premier.
Oh, speaking of kick-ass entertainment, Amazon.com finally decided to ship out the second season of Supernatural. Not that that really means anything...I’ve seen the carrier wait to pick up a package for a couple of days. Either way, I’ll be a very happy psycho bunny when it does come in.
Also, at some point in time I bought this mug. It’s back-ordered, so I can’t count on it coming in any time soon, but I had to have it. So there ya go.
I really wish Invasion America was on DVD...I know that’s random, but I can feel my sleep meds kicking in and I tend to get that way when they do. I just really would like to watch it again...that was a good show.
Well, meds are kicking in so I really must go. Goodnight, Sunshines.
