War With the Flies

Alas, I have had a buggy little problem in my house. For the past few weeks, there have been a number of fruit flies and just common house flies in my house. Now... I'm generally a laid-back sort of person. A fly or two doesn't really bother me. As long as they leave me alone, I'm fine. Unfortunately, this became more than a fly or two very quickly AND they constantly buzzed about me. It seemed like over-night, I had 3 dozen flies in my house. And that's just the house flies, not the fruit flies. I cannot begin to count their number. I mentioned it to Dad, and I got some pesticide spray.

Dad said that around the back of their house they had the same problem. Well, the garbage had begun to pile up, and when Dad went to burn what he could, he found a bunch of maggots in the garbage can.... XP OMG, so nasty. So, evidently, the flies were just gathering around their back yard where the garbage cans were, and since my house is (technically) in their backyard, they just decided to come on over. Spraying the pesticide on the walls and outside my house has not helped. So, this past weekend (while I was feeling crapy with my leg hurting and all anyway) I decided to keep the spray handy......I ended up pretty much declaring war on the flies. I put the pesticide squirt nozzle on the direct spray, so that it shoots out a single line of liquid as opposed to a poof cloud spray. Every time I saw one, I ended up cornering it and just sprayed till I'd knocked the sucker into a puddle of pesticide. I'm very happy to report that my house is virtually fly free. There's an odd one here or there in rooms I don't go in that often, but over-all N2 has no flies in it right now :)

The only down-side is that I can only spray pesticide for so long without hacking my lungs out. Too much of it in one room makes my throat and nose itch like crazy >..< So, I try to limit the amount I spray... When the house was over-run with them, I was terribly miserable. Now, it's not so bad since I only see one odd fly now and then. But now, I'm not so relaxed about it. Used to, if I saw a fly, I'd just let it be. But after this entire ordeal, one fly means I'm off to fetch the pesticide -..- The annoying little buggers aren't even smart enough to leave me alone, and an annoying pest is about as bad as one that bites or stings.

Oh, and Mom and Dad are away now. Dad got called out early Monday... well, to be precise, he called his company asking when they wanted him, and they said "a day earlier than usual". He'll be towing the rig this hitch, so he may be out for anywhere between 14 to 37 days @..@ And since he had to leave Monday at noon, and he didn't get any sleep before hand, and since Mom's older sister (Aunt Audrey) has been having serious heart trouble in the way of multiple heart attacks, Mom decided to accompany him and drive back up after Aunt Audrey's surgery. So, I'm left to hold down the fort while they're gone. All I really have to do is burn my own trash, collect their mail, watch out for Aunt Carolyn's mail and cut the grass at some point.... fun.

Oh, yesterday was my day with Alicia. She pretty much comes over every Tuesday now. We were checking to see places we could visit in Branson... of course it was a great excuse just to go to Branson and map the place out for me. Alicia wanted to go to Staples too, and I've actually never been to a Staples. But, I'm getting ahead of myself.

I had an appointment with the chiropractor yesterday at 3, so Alicia came over early, but accompanied me to the chiropractor (with a small assortment of the first volumes of my manga collection). I told the doctor about how I injured my knee Friday, and she checked it and said my ankle and knee were out of alignment because of it. So she adjusted it too and told me to ice it as well as my lower back (20 minutes on the ice pack and 2 hours off). After that, we went straight to Branson.

On the way there, Alicia got really hungry....and I started getting hungry too. We had planned on stopping at Applebee's to get a to-go menu (turns out they didn't even have any at the time -..-), so we just decided to have lunch there. They still had that 2 meals for $20 deal, so we went ahead and did that. Then we went to Staples, and I found some of those
Soney Earbuds that Takara had showed me at the Lock-In. They fit really easily into the ear, and unlike the original earbuds I had, they don't hurt. Oh, and they were only $9.99, soooo I got them :) We also went to K-Mart, but that was because Alicia said that her mom needed some loafers and ... she wanted to buy them for her... I dunno. Whatever.

Uhhh, then we went to the theater to check and see if they had the times that Transformers 2 would be playing for this Saturday... they only replied that the Imax had it... which really didn't help us much. I told Alicia that I knew the Imax's web site said they wouldn't be playing Transformers 2 after the 9th, so I'd call this little cinema on the 10th and ask if they were having it then. Over-all, we'll have to see, otherwise our trip to Branson will be ...underwhelming at best. After that we were a bit bummed so we went to Best Buy, and I found
Tall Tale on DVD. I was so excited, because I loved this movie when I was young, and it didn't seem like it'd ever come out on DVD. And there it was... for $6.99! So... of course, I got it =..=' And Best Buy was right next to Books-A-Million ... so, no surprise where we went next. I ended up buying this enormous book on Mythology called Mythology: Myths, Legends, & Fantasies. It's massive and I probably paid entirely too much for it... and I love it :3 Of course, this thing is so comprehensive, I may never need another book or reference on mythology EVER. In the back, there's an index for referencing individual things, but there's also a section that breaks down each section and says "For Further Reading" and tells you many books that you can get if you want to focus solely on one thing. It's huge o..o

After that, Alicia and I came home... although it took her a while to adjust to manga reading, she did manage to finish the first volume of Furuba in the car on the way home while I rocked out. I've also managed to get her hooked on the Corrs and Nightwish... mwahaha :D But anyway! Then when we got home, and after we unpacked we finished watching Princess Mononoke. Miyazaki-san is so awesome. I think Alicia agrees :) I was actually surprised to learn that the english voice-actor that spoke for Moro... is Gillian Anderson, aka Scully o..o How many cool points can you earn? :D Anyway! After that, she went home and I showered and went to bed.

I really have been loafing about today...but I'm really tired and just content to so. I mean, I know I probably should've cut grass.... but, I can always do it later. Annnd now, I gotta go and get ready... gotta leave for church around 6:45 and my hair is riotous :3 I like getting ready early so that I can relax and not rush before I leave. So! I'm off. I'll type later, Sunshines :)

OMG, I can't move....

Beware, for I am: Tired Tired & Sore Sore

OMG...I am so soar from yesterday. It’s not even funny. The only time I don’t feel it is when I’m sitting still and not moving. If I get up, I feel it; if I sit down, I feel it; if I walk, I feel it; even when I try to cross my legs I feel it. Damn squats =__= Well, I suppose this job will help me get into shape if nothing else, and that’s something to be positive about.

Today...I made charts. I did nothing else all day. You know why? Because there was a foot-and-a-half tall stack of papers that needed to be made into charts. I felt like Griff for a minute there (“OMFG”), only mine was from shock while his is from awe. I had brought that whopper with me, but I only wanted to eat it when I was hungry. So when I got hungry, I took a gander at my watch only to discover that it was 1:24 and I only had 36 minutes till I was gonna leave. Of course, once I realized how close I was to leaving, the time crawled and I became ravenously hungry. I know they have coffee, so I’m gonna just have to have some throughout the day like they do. This not eating crap is killing me.

So, I got home and I watched last night’s CSI: Miami. Couldn’t killed someone when the weather kept interrupting. So what if they have bad weather in Tangipahoa? That’s no concern of mine, and I’d really rather just watch my show. Geeze. Then the way they ended it. You just don’t want the season finalizing by you staring down the barrel of a gun at your hero! It’s wrong and perverted on so many levels…anyway...

I got a message from Reiko on my answering machine. We keep missing each other because of our hours. I work 8 – 2 and she gets out of school at like 11:30, then goes to work not long after that. I was debating going over to Pet Smart (where she works) to talk to her, but she knows my number if she needs me. And with the price of gas, I really don’t feel like making the trip >__>

I finally sent off my letter to Chibi this morning. She hasn’t written me back, so I started something called “The Random Page”. The Random page is supposed to be a page of little ideas that I have that I want to mention to her before I get a reply. It’s stuff that’s totally random that I just jot down, as opposed to the replies that I send to her where I actually try to make sure the inane babbling at least has something to do with the letter she just sent me.

Well. That’s about it for now. I wanna go and post a more specific entry in [livejournal.com profile] ruby_unicorn. I haven’t posted in there in forever. Just haven’t had anything that I thought was good enough, I guess. Later.

Beware, for I am: Image hosted by Photobucket.com Frustrated

Wow. Another one of those days. Woke up around...when was it?...it had to be about 8 or so. The reruns of Gilmore Girls run at 9:30 and I was actually back in for it. So anyway, while I was fixing breakfast my dad says to me, “Hon, I need your help with something, and don’t say ‘no’.” Which means I was going to be helping him (he told me I couldn’t say no after all -.-). After a quick pop tart and coffee fest for breakfast, I got dressed and went outside. Turns out he needed me to help him with ‘yard work’ of a sorts.

My uncle C (the head of the rich family members) owns a tractor that has a dump thingy on it...you know, it raises the dump bucket and lowers and there’s three levers just to operate the dump thingy. Anyway, it’s a fancy-snancy tractor that has it’s on air conditioned cab, and Dad had been using it to take heaps of mud that he’d previously dug and discarded while digging out our old ditch, and putting them in the lower lying areas of the yard. Well, when the street was paved, there was a crew that came and did some trimming of branches around the power lines. They then chopped the branches into mulch, and for some odd reason, my mom thought we might need a bunch of mulch. So she asked them to dump a bit in our yard. We ended up with a pile that would cover a sumo-wrestler. But we had it right next to our drive way, and Dad was worried that it’d attract termites.

The whole purpose of this rant is for me to explain that he had moved almost all of the pile, but he couldn’t get the stuff at the bottom without someone to help him get it into the dumper’s bucket. He gave me a crash course in the operation of the tractor (I hate clutch vehicles), and I ended up dumping two loads at the back of our lot, onto a dead banana tree. Air conditioned or not, I was still sweating after that was over. I was afraid I’d wreck the tractor or screw up the transmission or something >_> But all was well after that.

Then I watched the rerun of Gilmore Girls only to realize that Mom and I had seen it Friday. Turns out Gilmore Girls reruns at two times, once in the morning and once in the afternoon, but the ones in the afternoon are an episode ahead of the ones in the morning. So if you view Monday’s afternoon GG, there really is no point in seeing Tuesday’s morning GG. I watched it anyway, because it was Emily and Richard’s reconciliation. I liked that part. I hated how Emily ordered Christopher around at the end though. So, I assume that means Luke and Lorelai’s big break-up concerning Christopher will be either next or soon.

Enough about that though. I then went and looked over the adds in the paper. I found three adds to apply for not counting the staffing agencies that I’ve already applied at. I edited my cover letter and printed out three for each, then made resumes and envelopes to go with each. I waited till Mom and Dad had gone over the bills and made out their payments, then I headed to town. I deposited my last check into my bank and got enough cash for a car wash. My car was caked with dust, and I figured if I didn’t get it cleaned now then I never would. So I did that, and then I went to Rouses where they had a post office drop box. I dropped all the mail and then headed back home.

When I got home I discovered I had a letter from Chibi. I was elated. I read it and then I typed up a reply. I then proof-read the reply and write it out on black paper with my new jell pens. I even had enough time to make a MM’s Jellies doodle. That was fun. Of course the down-side to taking such measures when writing a letter means it took up nearly all the afternoon. When Mom poked her head in my room to see if I minded going to town with Dad for something, it was already 4. I checked over all the things I had and realized I’d finished the letter. So I leave the pages all there, waiting to be put into the proper envelope.

I went with Dad to Lowe’s because he too had been productive. He and Mom had bought a new stove. The problem was it was about an inch higher than the last one, so there’s a gap between the counter and the stove. Dad didn’t find anything to fill the space, but I did find some nice base-boards. We also talked about all the things we’re doing to the house, and I told Dad that I don’t really care where we live, as long as it’s not in LA. I’m sick of the hurricanes and worrying about them. And I’m not a natural worrier. I wouldn’t say that I worry about hurricanes, because I don’t. But they are something that you can’t just forget about.

Anyway. We then went to Best Buy and got a wireless router and a USB thingy to plug into old Irene. Mom and dad want to access the internet on the old computer, but they don’t want to run cords all through the walls and such, so we choose to go wireless. The problem is our old Westell doesn’t seem to be on speaking terms with the new Linksys. So we’re gonna give Bell south a call in the morning and ask if they’ve got any solutions (like sending us a new modem or something).

So after wrangling that thing for the evening, I finally to watch CSI: Miami. Great episode, even if it was a rerun. I love Horatio, and Dad hates that Mom and I like him. He thinks he’s stuck on him self, but we both tell him over and over that he’s just an actor playing a part.

I gotta say though, not all of today was a total beast. There was the time Dad and I had just gotten in from Lowe’s and Best Buy. Mom was out on the patio, and she said she was hungry, so I made us all Ramen noodle (beef for Dad, spicy chicken for Mom, and chicken for me) along with some egg rolls and tea. We sat on the back there and just ate and enjoyed the weather. The weather has been quite temperate lately. It’s hot and humid, but there’s always a breeze that keeps you a little cool. We did some bird watching as well, at least mom and I did. Mom and Dad put a little bird house in the tree that’s just off our patio and there’s a tiny sparrow and his little mate inside it. I think she’s nesting, but the house is so small that he usually wont fit in it if she’s in there, so he just hangs out on the ledge of the house outside, peeping in ever now and then. I dubbed them Vern and Shirley. Dad thought it was silly, but I like it. There’s also the hummingbirds. Mom’s got 3 feeders out and they zip on it and feed at each one. There’s two, and Mom thinks it’s a male and a female, because one’s small and has a ruby throat while the other is a tab bit larger (no humming bird is very large) and is very dark brown throughout. It was pleasant. After we sat for a while, I went and watered all the plants including my little cacti. I really should get my camera out and take some pictures. But anyway.

I found out that Lexy (my printer) has this really cool scan feature. If you have more than one page to scan, you just line them up on top, and she’ll scan them all. I had a lot of fun with scanning Chibi’s huge letter. I wanted to remember what I had said because I have a real problem with forgetting who I tell what and I hate repeating myself.

I also managed to write a little bit on my x-men fic. Nothing huge, just a little bit of the next chapter. I think I at least know where the thing is going, so I have a guide post. That’s one thing I hate about not having a set schedule. Since you have plenty of time to do anything, nothing ever gets done. I actually have to crack a whip on myself otherwise I’d never do anything. It’s sad really =.=

Oh well. I’m kinda hungry, and I heard my Mom and Dad mention that they’re having a tomato-gravy & busicuit breakfast tomorrow with a few of their elderly friends. That means it’ll be early so I’d better get as much sleep as I can...and I’ve gotta say I haven’t been having the best night sleeps lately. So goodnight!
