Fact of the Day: blue jeans
Blue jeans were patented by Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss in 1873 in San Francisco, California. The riveted pants became an instant success with working men because of their durability. The original name for the blue jeans was "waist overalls." In the 1950s, the baby boomers began to refer to the overalls as jeans and in 1960 Levi Strauss & Co. officially adopted the name jeans. From working pants to cowboy pants, to rebellious youth symbols, to designer jeans, in each decade since the first blue jeans were manufactured, jeans have represented their own distinct attitude.
