Knights of Shiloh, season 3... wow. So many things to talk about, and I'm so scatterbrained :|

NAK - The First Day

2010-Aug-18, Wednesday 05:52 pm
msmoon: (BC - Basketcase)

First day of college was today. I think you'd have to be a professional student before you could actually consider it a non-stressful experience. Even when you've got all your ducks lined up in a row, you feel all jittery and out of place. Gotta say it though, very little actually went wrong today.

Parking was atrocious, but everyone makes such a major deal over how bad the parking is that you forget how bad the parking situation is. Then when you're in that situation and you end up parking in Lot G which is a quarter mile away…. you can't help but think, 'whoa! the parking is really frakin' bad! D:'. Then you remember, that's exactly what you knew all along and you laugh at yourself… it doesn't make the parking better, but you're mood is just a tiny bit lighter….well, at least it was for me :)

Soooooooo! All of my classes are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays... although, my fourth class is just on Mondays and Wednesdays… I have Sociology first at 9, and it probably would be better if I got up and left the house at 7:45, and then just waited around until 9 for my class. If you're curious as to why…reference the above paragraph <..<

I've never really understood exactly what Sociology is… Evidently, sociology, anthropology and psychology are all in the same field, only they have more specific focuses. I look forward to actually understanding what the hell that means, and hope to God it doesn't bore me into insensibility :3 After Sociology is English Comp I, which is actually jointed with Sociology… evidently it's something that helps you to apply skills you'd learn in one course in …all courses…or something. I dunno. At this point my brian's kinda fried anyway. I'm generally bad at lecture classes…because my ADD kicks in and just flairs up into this horrible thing. I'm kinda the same at reading though… I tend to read stuff and not remember a thing of what I've read. I've tried reading out loud, but that doesn't really help much. But the English Comp class is also a 'discussion' class…which might be better than a lecture class if only because it's a little more engaging….provided that I actually engage, of course.

But after those two classes (which appear to be THE classes, the hardest classes I will have), I have Algebra. I never thought I'd say this, but… I think I might actually enjoy/not despise this. They're starting off with basics, so instead of straining my brain to remember what I used to know (and purposefully forgot) about algebra, I actually get a refresher course. Also, the lessons are all on computers and you listen to headphones while someone explains what you're supposed to be learning and you take notes and …stuff. It's pretty cool actually. Or maybe it's just my love of computers coloring my natural abhorrence of the dreaded beast (aka algebra).

I then have my hour break, and at 1 I'm off to Intro to Info Tech, which is a computer class. Intro to Info Tech is actually longer than the other classes… Most of the classes are only 50 minutes, but ItIT is an hour and 20 minutes long, but that's because we only meet on Mondays and Wednesdays.

You know how, when you have a bunch of classes, you designate one as the 'easy' class? It's not really easy, but in comparison to the others, it may as well be, right? Well, Into to Info Tech is that class. It'll be great too, because as much as I loved Word 2003…it's the old version now. So I'll probably get a better understanding of how to work the newer programs :)

The instructors are really cool though. I mean, I haven't had a single problem with any of my teachers at all. They all seem pretty awesome at this point… of course, it's still early. But they all seem pretty accessible. During Intro to Info tech, I got on my student e-mail and added all my teachers' emails to my contacts… just in case.

That is my 'thus far' report of college…thus far o..o' There really isn't much else to say. I have chapters to read over and stuff to do, but over all I have to say, the experience wasn't as daunting as I thought it would be. As long as our instructors don't make us constantly play these ridiculous social games and causing my social anxieties to flair up, I should be fine… I suppose I'll be fine even with the social anxieties…. they just don't make it easy -..- Oh well. I'll put on my big girl panties and deal with it. It's all I know how to do.

Guess that's all for now. Later, Sunshines :)

Registration

2010-Jul-02, Friday 09:37 pm
msmoon: (HP - Severus Spanking Time)

OK, so, today...despite feeling horrible, I went to the local college and registered for the fall semester! I went today, and signed up right away to speak to someone. Gotta say it... these people have a much better system than Fletcher did. Fletcher had us taking our schedules around to the different teachers and asking them to sign that they had a spot open in their class for a student... Oh, and all the teachers were in their class rooms, not sitting in an office all easy-like for us. It was like a mad scavenger hunt. This time, you're called and they ask you if you've filled out an app, and if you have you're shown to an advisor :D

My advisor got me a student ID number and got me all setup on line...and then informed me that none of my stuff from Fletcher actually transfered to places I needed it.... so I had to go and take a Compass test to see how I would place. Luckily it's not something you have to sign up for on a certain day at a certain time. You just go over, pay for it and take the test. Also lucky, I'm a very fast test taker. Took me about 20 minutes to get all three parts done. As expected, I totally owned the Writing and Reading section...but totally sucked at the math =..=' Writing score was 99 and I finished in 17 minutes, Reading was 93 and I finished in 19 minutes, aaaand Math....was a whopping 41 and I finished it in 8 minutes. I'm one of those people that, I won't agonize over something if I don't know it or if I'm not certain. I put the answer in that's closest to what I think it might actually be and move on....thus it took me no time at all to fail at the math :)

Anyway, that being done, I rushed back over to the registration and explained that I'd seen Dr. Gwen and she told me to take the test and come back. After a few minutes, I was back to registering. She was really great about everything, and I think half of that is because they're so used to people getting fed up with the protocol and taking it out on them, they find it a joy when someone's willing to be adaptable.

Anyway...All my courses are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday (although one's only on Monday and Wednesday)...except for the one I'm thinking of dropping. Introduction to Sociology is at 9, English Comp 1 is at 10, Beginning Algebra is at 11 and Intro into Info Tech is at 1. Sooo, class, class, class, quick lunch break....and then another class :) Except that the last one I don't have on Fridays :D The other class is Medical terminology...and it's on Thursday at 5...and it's 3 hours long O..O' I understand that a load of people got there before me and filled the normal class period up...but I don't think I can sit in a class for three hours, much less a 'medical terminology' one. If it were like...something fun...like ... a writers' workshop...or maybe something artistic but very hands on...like... clay! I'd love to learn to work a kiln...

Another (sorta) shocker is that when I was waiting (which was a lot) I actually started writing a lot. I've been feeling so bad lately, that even at times when I normally would write, I'd just sit there and stare at a page and get depressed. But I sat in the halls today, and flipped to the spot in my notebook that was clear, and cranked out about 8 more pages of the next chapter o..o I suppose it shouldn't be too shocking... I did most of the base work (characters and world building) for my story when I was last in college. What can I say? Those generic little buildings, so plane and boring, it's not like you can get distracted while you're sitting around waiting for stuff to happen...so you day dream. And, if you're me apparently, you write. It made me wonder, if I went to the public library with my notebook and just sat there at a table...if I wouldn't write better. I mean, I've said it before, my home is awesome. There's all this cool stuff and ...well...it's real easy to get distracted. Maybe if I was in a more sterile environment, with fewer distractions... I might actually write more often and better... Of course, that'd require me leaving the house....and there are distractions at the library... srsly, books, hello. There's always Sally Rae's :D

I'm going to go ahead and just wrap this up now. This was supposed to be all about registration, and I got a bit derailed. So anyway, that's my story of today. I got registered for the fall semester, and I'm scheduled for orientation on August 10th, at 12 in the afternoon. They're going to give us basics about the college and then show us around and point out our class rooms. So that should be ...what's a good word? Fun isn't right. Hm...productive? Yeah, that'll work :)

Guess I'll talk later. Night!

You Are the Suburbs

You've got a bad rap, but you think people are just jealous of how good you've got it.

You prefer to live somewhere that's clean, safe, and cheap. What could be wrong with that? You're not going to apologize for liking chain restaurant and good schools.

While you may not be as sophisticated as the city, you're content with your life. Plus, there's more to do in the suburbs than people think.

Besides, you can visit the city anytime you'd like. And when you're fun in town is done, you have a comfy suburban house to come home to.

Mecha Con Whirlwind

2008-Aug-05, Tuesday 11:30 am
msmoon: (SM - Playful Uranus)

Holy crow….I think I might actually be recovered from the con (or well on my way)...I’m still sorta tired, but…I’m always tired.

Saturday, we dragged ourselves out of bed around 9 to go to Vs. A Leo. We ended up walking in just as they started (thanks to Reiko and Reign’s smoke breaks). Talk about hilarious. I don’t know how they end up with come-backs so quickly, but those two guys are hilarious. After an hour of amusing ourselves with that, we headed back out (because Emphysema and Bronchitis needed their fix again). We hung out (invariable going to the dealers room or just walking around) till 1, and I went to see the panel called 15 Years of Sailor Moon…..which…..ended up frustrating me, and I just left that panel early.

There was more hanging out till about 4ish, when we headed down to the bus area. The cosplay competition had gotten so big, they actually reserved Angelle Hall on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus. Talk about madness. We got in on the second bus (first seats), and the lobby of the hall was full when we got there, and I’m fairly sure two more buss loads were dropped off. Then they opened the doors O..O I managed to scamper down and get us seats on the edge of the 6th row to the far right side. Finally, it seemed like everyone got seated and situated.

Then they made us wait an hour. But of course, we’re anime fans…and most of us are kids to boot. So we didn’t just sit quietly. First there was singing, clapping, everything we could do to keep ourselves entertained. Then, the guys in the back who control the lights, sound and everything in the auditorium used one of those red laser lights and he was pointing out things on the stage….well, it turns out someone else…brought a laser light. Two to be precise. There was one red one and one green one, and they would chase each other around on the walls and ceiling. Then the guys in back made the spot light chase them around. There was music, and eventually dancing by everyone in the auditorium, but…it stopped when someone stupid got on the stage. Yeah. But then we all sat down and watched the laser lights ^..^ Twas funny.

The cosplay competition was good. I got it all on Zeiss, but for some odd reason, none of the pictures Reiko took came out. But it was pretty awesome, and I did get it on DVD at least. There was a “Dating Game” thingy in between the competition and the awards (so that we don’t all go stir crazy again), and there was a “Het” Round and a “Yaoi” round =..= Oddly enough, the Yaoi round was funnier, but I didn’t record it! So yeah. I wanted to have room on the DVD for the awards and stuff, so I didn’t record that, but you know. Whatever. The memories will still rock.

We went back to the hotel (after waiting for the buss for 35 minutes) and I went to sleep. Reiko, on the other hand, went to the “Mecha Con House Party/Rave”. Then she went and swam with some guys (though the pool was closed so they had to jump the fence. A storm rolled in though. So they came back to their hotel rooms….at 4:30 in the morning =..= Evidently Reiko had met a guy named Gaven that night, and they all agreed to go and eat sushi during the “happy hour” between 10 and 2. They agreed to meet at 11…….But see, they were all exhausted. I woke up and got ready around 10ish, and Reign knocked on my door around 11 telling me that Reiko needed to get up now because they’d all agreed to go out for sushi….She was ready by 11:40 but…there was no sign of Gaven. I found out that Gaven is the “Local Fraternity Rich Kid” and he knows all the local restaurants and what’s good…and plus he was really freakin’ awesome. So yeah, they really liked hanging around with him. He did show up around 12ish, and we went through the dealers room one more time (Gaven wanted a hentai shirt and Reiko got a black Yoshi plushy), and then we headed all the way across town…to find that sushi places are closed on Sundays. I knew this, but I guess I figured that, you know, maybe not all of them adhered to this. So, we ended up going to Chili’s for breakfast (of course, by the time we got there and ordered it was around 1:40). But after much toil and sorrow we got our food and were happy. At this point, we were having such fun hanging out that I decided to blow off whatever panels I might've wanted to go to that day. Who needs the con when you've got cool people, right?

After eating and goofing off a bit, we headed back to the hotel, and instead of prolonging the inevitable, we decided to go ahead and start packing up to leave. I’d gotten a text from Scamp, but my phone was on silent so…yeah. I texted back asking if she could show up in the lobby around 3:45. She said they might be a little late, but they’d be there. We headed down, and the boys were good to help us with the luggage cart. I told them to go ahead and take the luggage out and I’d check out. After check out, I walked out to the parking lot to find Gaven on the luggage cart (surfing it) with Reign pushing the cart, and Reiko trailing behind holding Reign’s leash…..these crazy kids are so much fun. We stopped outside (after turning in the luggage cart) and they took a smoke break ….and stalked Master Roshi. Reiko had gotten some new pants that say “I *heart* Kyo”, and who better to take a naughty picture with than Master Roshi, right? So, Master Roshi finally came back (they’d seen him pass already), and Reiko got her picture with him.

Needless to say the pictures from the trip are great….even if there aren’t enough of them. True, Facebook’s stupid 60-Picture limit would hinder anything more than the 125 we had, but it’d make a great album. I was thinking of buying a couple of matching albums and printing out the pictures so Reiko and I can have the ultimate memento. It’d be awesome…it’s just…to find the right one, ya know?

Sunday after the con is a blur really. I know that Scamp showed up and then we drove home. I uploaded pics to MySpace right away, but couldn’t edit them all….the internet kept crashing >..< Oh well. I’ll get around to it. Anyway, I went to bed late, not because I wasn’t tired, but because I was so tired I couldn’t rest. I tried to read a bit (and since I bought a crap-load of manga, that worked nicely for me ^..^). Monday was terrible. I wasn’t feeling good and I was zonked from the whirlwind weekend. After work (which just dragged by), I went over to my Aunt Carolyn’s house to eat. Mom and Dad had gotten in from Arkansas, and Aunt Carolyn had cooked jambalaya and white beans. I ate and was very happy.

After getting home, I got a call from Reiko. She said she’d been talking to Reign and Gaven and they were telling her about another convention coming up in December called Louisianime. She didn’t have internet though, so she was wondering if I could look for it for her. And since I put that link right there up, I’m gonna assume you all figured out that I found it =..= It turns out it’s May 8-10, 2009 at the Marriot in Baton Rouge….which is better time-wise, because she wants to cosplay as Seras Victoria from Hellsing. I still don’t know if I’ll be going…but it’d be more realistic if it’s next year and all. I’ve already taken off all the days I can this year.

….I think Reiko stole my cereal…But yeah! That was our Mecha Con Experience. I’m pretty certain that if I got next year, I’ll be reserving a suite for Thursday through Monday so that I can get there nice and easy and then leave whenever I want ^..^ I didn’t really do that much damage swag-wise either. I ended up with 4 hacky sacks that have cute anime-ish faces on them, my two Mokona’s (one white and one black), Volumes 6, 7, 8, 9 and 11 of W Juliet and Volumes 3, 5, and 6 of Kara Kano (there was a special...8 manga for $60 ^..^). Yayness. I now have absolutely no money =..= But Friday is payday. I shall be paying bills though so…yeah. I’m keeping it simple for the next couple of weeks. Luckily, I don’t kneed much.

I guess that’s all for now. Later, Sunshines!

Strict Schedule

2007-Aug-06, Monday 01:17 pm
msmoon: (Light or Train)
Holy Bipeds, Batman. I think I’ve bruised my brain >__< I’ve had to almost totally reformat a six page evaluation form, organize invoices to be mailed out, make up two certificates for new therapists and then, I took my lunch break and decided to proof read/continue writing what little I wrote last night =___=’ I’z tired ya’ll.

I need to come up with some sort of time management thing...There’s not a lot of things that I do when I get home (usually). At least, not unless I have something specifically set to do. But, I was thinking of starting some sort of exercise thing...I think I’ll wash off my make up as soon as I get home and change into some exercise worthy clothes, and then I can go for a walk up our street. It’s only half a mile long, so walking up and back will give me a mile. That sounds like some decent cardio. I’ll start with that and then once I get used to it, I’ll go ahead and see if I can start using the work-out equipment in Dad’s shed.

after that, it’ll be cool out for a few minutes and then shower. Now after that I only have two things that I want to really occupy my time...Writing and Warcraft. Yes, I want to get back into playing WoW. Crazy I know, but I noticed that with EQ I never even got a character up to 20, and there really is no point in the game if you don’t at least try to play serious up into the higher levels. Now, I want to do writing, but only an hour at a time. So...It’ll probably take about an hour to 45 minutes to do my ‘work out’ …and as I keep doing it, I’ll probably gain speed and be able to complete it faster. So that’s 5:30 – 6:30. Then 6:30 – 7:00 will be cool out/shower time...then I can have an hour to write for 7:00 – 8:00. Then 8 on can be WoW time. I realize this rigid schedule keeps me on pretty late but I figure I will probably only want to play WoW for a couple of hours at most.

When do I want to start this? Well, after Scamp leaves this time. I was thinking of using our time together this time around to my advantage by getting her help on how to organize my closet and book storage. Sounds terrible of me no? Ah well, she’s had a week of vacation. So, preferably next Monday I’ll be starting this schedule. Now, as for parts of my body that I know need working on, I’m most concerned about my arms, legs and stomach. I accept the fact that I have a big ass, and that I will probably always have a big ass. I get it. It’s ok by me. I suppose it’s better than having a flat ass. So, I’m not really too focused on that. But, after I the walking/cardio I can do push ups, squats and crunches. It’s the only solution I see. And I figure I should start with those basic exercises before I even try to use actual weights & equipment. Once my system has gotten used to doing all of that, then I can move up the chain. I can hear Dad now saying “Take it slow” not to mention my cousins “If you die from heat stroke, I’ll never forgive you”, but I don’t have any illusions about doing this over night. I’m hoping that by next month I’ll have adapted enough to the current set exercise program that I can finally move up from there (and I’m talking about moving on to small weights). Then I can keep progressing up from there.

I’m the type of girl that needs a strict schedule…or I will be extraordinarily lazy. So, that is my plan thus far. God be with me.

My lunch break is nearly over...so this is as good a time as any to close this. Later, Sunshines.
