Summer Cleaning

Beware, for I am: Productive Productive

Well today was a good day. Woke up to an empty house (I love it when I have the house all to myself), then after breakfast, I started cleaning. I managed to get my closet (or at least the bottom of it) all sorted out so it doesn’t look like a dumping ground. I also cleaned up the rest of the room, though it’s not as clean as I’d like. I’ve still got tomorrow though. I’m hoping to finally get some of those bins to go under my bed. The last ones we got were too big and wouldn’t fit. I now know that anything over 9 inches high is too tall. But the ones we did get have made my closet look nice, so that’s something. I put my fabric that’d been overflowing from my old sewing kit into one and the left-over batting I have in the other. Next I’ll work on moving the books I want under my bed and getting my movie closet sorted out nicely. But for now, I’m going to go shower and then continue watching Firefly as I it’s the only other thing I’ve been doing all day. Later!

PS: I just found out the next Gathering of the Gargoyles will be held in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. My Mom loves Tennessee and I love Gargoyles! This is a perfect excuse to take a trip! And since it’s in 2007, I’ll have plenty of time to save!

Ah…what a day. Woke up around 10 (actually it was exactly 10 ‘cause my Dad wouldn’t let me sleep any more). I ate breakfast, and then got ready, and Dad and I went to Wally-World to ring up near-to $120 in groceries and what-have-you. I bought two different types of batting for Mom’s pillows. The smaller pillows are filled with that polly-fill micro beads stuff (the stuff they put in those little pillows that are supposed to be so good for your neck). And the big one is stuffed with normal batting. We also got a bunch of other stuff; mostly stuff that we needed but some things…well, you know.

When we did get home, Dad checked stocks and e-mail, played a game, and then went out to finish the ditch digging he’d started earlier this week. I on the other hand, stayed in and got to work on finishing my pillows. I believe I sat down around 3 p.m. and I did not get up till 6:30. My eyes and back and neck were killing me. But the project was nearly finished. Dad helped me get the micro-beads into the small pillows…What a mess! Those little beads are nearly weightless, and they stick to anything! They frikkin’ defy gravity! We had them everywhere! But finally the little pillows were filled, and I still had a medium sized zip lock bag full of micro beads. If I ever have another small pillow I need to fill, I will certainly use them…but with a decided amount of caution.

I took a small break from the whole process as Dad stuffed the larger pillow. We watched Myth busters. Now, admittedly I’m not a huge fan of explosions and a superior show of power; but, even I must admit, when they finally got those two semis to slam into each other, it was soooo cool! Tonight’s episode (for those who don’t regularly watch), circled around myths about vodka and the ‘compact compact’ myth. There were 2 vodka myths that I caught. One was that vodka could cure foot odder, and the other was that vodka when mixed with cinnamon and left for a while made a suitable mouthwash. Those two myths were proven accurate. The next myth was called the Compact Compact Myth. It stated that there was a compact car that got caught between to semi 18-wheelers that collided (a semi on either side of the compact car). And somehow, the semi trucks welded together, and the compact car was flattened to pancake status between them, virtually invisible. The last myth was proven false…but it totally rocked to see those two 18-wheelers collide head on into each other! Although I don’t always watch Myth Busters, I could see how it would be very entertaining.

Then the Discovery channel did that thing about the hurricanes of 2005. That was a bit enlightening and a bit disturbing. But overall, I think it focused more on the scientific affects of the hurricanes as opposed to the impact on humans in their area. It seemed like (from the previews) they would show a lot of the victims of the hurricanes…give them a voice, as it were; but, it did more to explain the why and how of hurricanes. It was very informing, make no mistake. I just assumed it would show a lot more of the damage on human lives. /shrug.

Then I finished showering, and I read the next volume (Vol. 5) of Alice 19th. God, I love that manga. I will (eventually) own it as well, but I’m just so soaking it up. I love the fact that the story is mostly about the power of words and the effect they have. I think people should really focus on their words a lot more. However, I have promised to pace myself when it comes to this manga. I will not read more than one manga a night. So, after I finished with this volume, I calmly put it down and logged onto here. /grin. There are only 7 volumes anyway.

I have now checked e-mail and posted here. Also, I have uploaded the pictures of Mom’s pillows for all to see.

Ja! )

And now it’s off to bed. Oh…I think I hear it raining…or maybe it’s just the wind. Oh well. Goodnight!

Sewing With MM

Yo. Today was …interesting I suppose. I got up and got ready and tried to print out my resume only to discover that my computer and printer were not on speaking terms…so I waited a while (organizing my sewing stuff) till it finally decided to print. By then, Mom had left for Lafayette. Her sister is having some sort of surgery, so she’s headed over there to take care of her.

Anyway, once she left, I headed to town to drop of resumes. I’d checked on Houma Today.com and found a vet hospital and a dentist needing a receptionist. So, I took care of that, and while I was in town I went to Circuit City and returned that thing they sold me yesterday. I then moseyed on over to Best Buy and asked them their opinions on it. At first they acted like they had no idea what I needed (or what I was talking about), and I pretty much felt deflated. But then, one of the younger guys asked what type of computer it was exactly that I was trying to work this on, and I walked up and showed him (they have the same computer there!) and he said that there is a slot for the extra hard drive, it’s just shoved behind all the other stuff and more difficult to get to…it’s not like they could make this easy or anything. So, I felt so much better, ‘cause that means I don’t have to ask my parents to buy me anything else!

So, I came home, and I immediately started working on Mom’s Christmas present. I know it’s early (well not really), but it’s a sewing project, and I wont have many opportunities to sew this while she’s here. Now is the perfect time to get it done! See, Mom loves humming birds…actually she just loves birds, but humming birds are her favorites! And I found this fabric at Hancocks and it has the look of a stained glass window with humming birds in the center surrounded by other birds. I took pictures today..um...pleasue excuse my messy bed. Here it is right here…

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

On the edge of it were these little panels…

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

So I figure I’ll sew the two big panels together, and I’ll put opposite little panels together, and make 3 pillows. It was a little difficult, because only one of the sides were cut evenly, and none of the others matched up. So, I had to end up cutting off the blue border, so that only the black part of the stained glass was where I could sew….but chances are, she’ll love it ‘cause it’s pretty, it’s humming birds, and it’s from me!

Then I got to looking at all the other fabric I’d gotten and horded up. So I dragged all that out, and reminded myself of my plans when I’d bought all those others.look see pretty fabric )

And that’s Fabrics with MM!

God, I’m tired. We went to a revival servace. The preacher is all right…but he didn’t preach anything I hadn’t heard or known before. /shrug. Preachers have to really go a long way to impress me.

Anyway. We got back home, and Dad and I watched our copy of The Comedy Bard from when we went to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. It was so funny, we hurt from laughing. I’m glad we can share things like that.

And now that I’ve showered, my meds are kicking in and I must sleep. Those crazy road workers always get over here around 6:30 a.m. every morning and are so loud and have that crazy beeping machinery…it’s such a mess. But if it gets us a nicely paved road, I’ll endure it. They’ve only been saying they’d pave our road for 22 years now…I’m glad they finally got around to doing it.

So that’s all for tonight everyone. I think I’ll e-mail Chibi before I really turn in. Goodnight!

Yo. I was really bored tonight, and I retook an old quiz I took a long time ago called Which Royalty are You?. This time around I got Princess...enh. Whatever. Anyway, I got to looking at all the things you could be, and I was like

“You know, I’ve heard these terms all my life in various forms...but do I really know what they mean?” so actually went to Dictionary.com and looked the ones I didn’t know up. Here’s what I got.

Crazy Royalty Stuff )

And that’s this session of “Useless Facts With MM”. Join us next week when we discuss the difference between Steve Irwin, and Jeff Corwin ^.~

Anyway...as you can tell I’m bored. Today I worked 10-6 (youch), and then when I got off, I went and bought a ton of fabrics that I’ve had my eyes on for God knows how long and paid a ridiculous sum for them. All together I paid about $57 and some change. Then I came home, hid one of the fabrics in my coat ( ‘cause it’s for Mom for x-mas ^.^), and then showed all the others off to Mom. I intend to make pillows out of most of them.

She’d cleaned my room up a little bit. I’d lamented that I didn’t have a lot of time to clean up. Oh yeah, Brian’s coming over tomorrow night to put this hard drive into Amos. Mom is under the impression that he will then hook the whole thing up, but I don’t know whether he will or not. Either way, it doesn’t matter, just as long as he gets this hard drive into Amos. /squee.

Anyway, when I got home, Mom had made soup, so she and I sat down to watch Home Edition that I’d taped the night before. It was a rerun. So we watched CSI and Without a Trace. They were ok. CSI was great, WaT was a bit depressing. But, oh well.

Ok, so, tomorrow, I work 12-8 (/death garble). I will now go shower, and then go to bed. I hope I sleep better than last night. Goodnight.

Yo. So, today wasn’t like yesterday or the day before in a few areas. First off, I was put to the task of hauling boxes of “Harvest” and Christmas things to the center of the main isle. Apparently, our customers are smart enough to find it if it isn’t put anywhere but smack dab in front of their faces right as they walk in the door. So the entire center isle, starting about 7 feet away from the front doors, is lined with Harvest and then Christmas nick-nacks (patty-wack, give that dog a bone!).

As well, it’s evident that the two hurricanes (Katrina mostly but Rita as well) have set us back in so many things. For one, the time. We have not had time to unload stock that’s been piling up for about 4 weeks. Also, on our sales. People are coming to buy fabric mostly. But very few of them are actually buying decorations and the nick-nacks that we’ve set up. Why? Because most of them are lucky to be alive and have their house, dammit! Of course people aren’t thinking about buy a wreath with a few squash and pumpkins and autumn colored leaves and stuff in it if they’re houses are flooded!

Ok, the rant for this section is over. So I worked with Mrs. Shirley, Mrs. Brenda, and Mrs. D (names may be changed once I recheck if that’s actually their names). Mrs. Brenda is nice and she’s very conscientious about what I may be learning. She goes almost out of her way to point things out to me so that I’m aware, even though I may still ask her a few times down the road. Mrs. Shirley...she’s nice enough, but she’s always running around...well like a beheaded chicken! She’s always so busy, and she’s always so tired of working there because of all the extra work she has to do. Then there’s Mrs. D. God, I love Mrs. D. Mrs. D is simple. She’s nice, but she certainly isn’t a worrier. She tells you what you want to know without holding your hand. Customers come up and ask a question and she’s got a simple answer for them.

“No.”

“It’d be over in that section.”

“Don’t lift things that are too heavy for you, Andrew can do that later.”

“That goes with the felts under 25% off. Always check your tags, they give hints.”

“I think that’s rayon, I’ll hunt for it later.”

“Would you just go home!”

God, I want to be this woman when I’m her age. She has a serious ‘not takin’ it’ attitude that I love. She’s not by any means rude, but she certainly doesn’t mince her words...if you know what I mean.

I didn’t really get my lunch break till about 1 this time. I was swaying on my feet from hunger too. I clocked out at 12:58 exactly, and promptly heated up the container of Mom’s spaghetti. It was so good, but I tell you, it was gone in 60 seconds. So, I’m sitting there, and about ¼ of the container is still full of spaghetti sauce. And, if you’re like me, you know the sauce is the good part. It’s the part that flavors the spaghetti after all. So, I couldn’t just dump it, and I had no intentions of downing it by itself (I could just see one of my supervisors walk in as I was doing that /shudder). So I look around, and I spot a box of Ritz crackers...glowing with angel’s singing in the background. And, as I’ve been repeatedly told, everything that’s left out on the table is fair game for anyone (but if it’s in the fridge and it isn’t yours, don’t touch!). So I grabbed a few of them and started dunking them in the spaghetti.Heaven! It was so good! I was amazed I’d never thought of it before...I will definitely have to jot that down whenever we have spaghetti again.

Ok, enough about lunch. So, I clock on again at 1:28, and head back out on the floor. My feet are still killing me, but I’ve learned to suck it up and deal. I knew from looking on the schedule that the infamous Holly would be coming in to work at 2. Holy is the supervisor on the floor. Her very name should send chills down new employee’s spines…Or at least, that’s what Mr. Davenport wants everyone to believe. Sorry, no go here. You see, I was given this speech when I first got hired on.

“Holly is the one you have to impress. If she doesn’t like you, you’re liable to go.” That’s great. It means he values the opinions of those under him who have a clue as to what is going on when he’s not around. Personally, I don’t care. I do my job to the best of my ability. If it’s not good enough then, maybe I shouldn’t be working there. There might be some people out there that fear their bosses and supervisors. But as for me, if I can’t talk with my boss as if he’s just your average Joe (or Jane), then that job’s not gonna work for me.

Here’s what I have gathered of Holly during the short time that I saw her. She works the hell out of her job. She’s tunnel visioned. I don’t know if she even so much as looked at me while she was working. She was just so busy focusing on what needed to be done, she didn’t bother. Also, she’s not that all-fire frightening. When I actually shook her hand, she smiled and seemed quite friendly.

But honestly, I didn’t really get that much of an impression of her other than that. I worked, and when I was done and Tiffany and Lucy had clocked on, I asked if they were ok with me clocking out. Then, I went out to the car and got my wallet. My Mom’s been mentioning that her best friend (fondly called ‘Aunt Batty’), love flamingoes. And we have some pretty fabric with flamingoes there. So I went and got the fabric, and had it cut. That was when I actually talked to Holly, as she was at the register. I introduced myself and she introduced herself and I said something like.

“I think you’re the one I’m supposed to be afraid of...” and she laughed. Then I said, “But Mr. Davenport said that about a lot of people around here...maybe that was just a joke.” I think she said she wasn’t sure. Either way, she was smiling, and I’m hoping that’s a good indication. I hate it when you can’t have an easy-going working relationship with everyone you work with.

OK, so, I went home and Dad had decided to buy me a new shower head...because, mine’s been wigging out on me for the past...year. He finally thought he’d had it fixed, but then it wigged again. So we went to Lowe’s and got that — didn’t take too long really. When I’m shopping, I like to look here and there, but mostly it’s about getting what I want to get done, and getting out. So then, we went to Outback to celebrate my birthday. Tomorrow is my birthday...I’ll be 22 years old. But Dad and Mom knew they couldn’t take me out since I’d be working 2-9. But then Dad’s usually off shore on my birthday, so just having him around is nice.

But anyway, supper was wonderful. Mom and Dad got salads. I got Toowoomba Pasta (kinda spicy), Dad got a steak, and Mom got soup. We were so busy sampling each other foods, that we all got full and it looked like our dishes were all half eaten. God, I love it when that happens. Because then the food is automatically mine. They don’t tend to like their left-overs as much, so they always say, “Oh, do you think you might want to eat this later, Honey?” and when I nod they decide they might as well get it to go then.

When we got home I watches Virginia’s Run. It was a cute little movie, but it was also extremely predictable. Still it was cute. But it won’t be making its way to the wish list. Which...is good, because I really don’t need to add items to that.

After putting that back in its case so that Mom can take it back to the Library, I got online and checked mail. Out of the 13 e-mails I had, only 4 were from people I know, and 3 of those 4 were newsletters or automated 3-mails. Figures. I did manage to talk a lot with my Twin-san ([profile] animequeen), which was good. We don’t get to talk often now that we actually have lives...I’m just glad that I actually have a life now, instead of being the dorky friend who can’t manager to do anything, and is always pining away for a friend. Oh wait.../laughs that describes me perfectly! Oh well.

Also, I got an e-mail today from Amazon, telling me that they had shipped my Black&White 2 game today...well that’s great, but you were supposed to ship it yesterday with 2 day shipping so I could have it by my birthday. It was last checked in at Lexington Kentucky at 7 something tonight. Unless they fly the sucker, there’s no way it’s getting here on time. But then, that would be so Amazon lately.

Oh well, I’d better go and take my pills so that I can get a good nights sleep (sarcasm? Hmm). I can actually sleep a little late tomorrow, but I do wanna wake up no later than 10. I want to put a load of clothes on to wash.

That will be all for this (huge) entry. Goodnight everyone.
