Some of those Pictures I've been talking about

Ok, this is us in traffic right after we turned away from the New Orleans exit.
This is the crazy gas station I mentioned where everyone was crowding and acting as if they hadn’t seen forms of civilization for 40 days.
Now, for the day the hurricane hit, I didn’t take many pictures. I mean, I couldn’t really. The wind and rain made it impossible. I wasn’t going to even try. I like my camera too much. But after the weather stopped (or at least slowed) and it was later afternoon, I poked my head out of the house and started taking pics. They turned out to be some of the most dramatic sky and landscapes I’ve ever taken. If some of the trees look blurred or out of focus, it’s because the wind is really badgering them. I’ll start out with the ones that don’t really mean much...

Badgered cotton.
Uncle Harvey’s House.
Now, onto the stuff that I really love! I love the plays of light and dark and it gives a somewhat dramatic feel to these images.

Now...on to ...other things...
This just goes to show that my dad’s alright anywhere, as long as he con listen to Loretta Lynn
This is my feeble attempt to show everyone that Cooter Point is actually a place on the map.
See that bunch of trees behind all that cotton way down yonder? That’s my Uncle Harvey’s house!
My Mom has a strange fixation with taking pictures of me in Uncle Harvey’s cotton. Something about how, when I was old enough and we first came down here, she had a pic of me in the cotton...strange woman...it would help if she knew how to operate the camera...
Now. Home, James!
This is the first pic I took when I got home. There’s a huge tree that toppled over next to one of our neighbor’s trailers. It’s roots are splayed up and all...
Our mimosa trees still stand, but in the back there’s a downed silver-leafed maple tree.
Here’s a shot of our nearest neighbor’s (Mr. Mickey – I kid you not) yard. His oak trees have been thoroughly ‘frisked’ and many of their branches are all over the ground.
The only good thing about hurricanes is how it brings people together. This is our two neighbors, Uncle C and Aunt D, Mr. Mickey and Mrs. Sandra and Mom and Dad all working together to make things easier on everyone.
Here’s some shots of around the yard and house.

Through it all, Mom’s front flowers stayed in tact...
Another shot of the Silver-leafed Maple tree. You can really see why they call it that.
Now this is funny! My Uncle C has pecan trees, and one of them bent over during the hurricane. Well, as soon as it cleared enough for him to get out there, he jumped on the tractor and hauled it upright, typed it and put boards around it to prop it up! If that isn’t tenacity, I don’t know what is!
The Oaks and Cypress that frame our land stand virtually untouched...
I always find this shot to be so artistic in a way...I have a mind to get it in black and white and see how it looks then...
Our sycamore tree still stands, though it is in desperate need of pruning...
Everything by the side of the shed is still there. Must’ve been protected from the wind by the shed.
Dad’s shed, full of everything that was outside.
Mom’s dragon fly lights weathered the storm as well, and she’d forgotten about them!
Time to move inside...but there’s no power!
Some eerie shots of the lanterns and candle light. I thought it was beautiful...

Here’s me, trying to sleep in the family room.
And Mom and Dad sleeping near the big box fan...that only worked for less than an hour...
The next morning we had breakfast like we usually did...
Pancakes
And eggs (for Dad).
And that concludes my pictures that I’ve been wanting to put up for so long! After looking it all over, I made this little icon which I love so much. I was thinking of putting something poetic in it about hope...I like the background so much, I have no idea how to put words in it without messing it up. But I think it’s beautiful enough on its own...![]()
What do you think?
I hope you have enjoyed everything.
Goodnight to all, and to all...goodnight.
