Yo. Everyone’s up in arms about ol’ Katrina now. Man. Just when we thought hurricane season was playing out...oh well. People are already packing up and leaving. Heading West I hope, considering that Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia are gonna get rain from this too. They say it’s coming right for New Orleans...but they think it might turn more towards Mississippi...but no one’s counting on that!

So what’s my family doing to prepare? Well...we might by a radio.../shrug We’ll probably board up the windows and just hunker down here and wait for the storm to pass. Dad might be going on Monday...although considering the storm is coming Monday, I doubt it. I don’t know if we’ll be having church tomorrow either...I might want to call and ask...there will probably be too many people boarding up, packing up, and leaving...but you can never tell.

Dad and Mom have headed off to have a lunch with the ‘Prime-Timers’. It’s a group of church people ages 50+ who get together and eat and have their type of fun...which usually involves singing old gospel songs off-key till everyone’s sick of them...But, I never knock it. They’re the best cooks in the church...

And of course, Mom and Dad left the TV on when they left so I was berated by the local news team as they informed everyone the same thing over and over “Katrina’s Coming.” It’s funny ‘cause what they’re saying is like this.

“Remember when Cindy came through here. Cindy was only a tropical storm, and the winds caused heavy damage across all of south Louisiana! Katrina is expected to become a category 4!”

What they’re really saying is, “GET OUT! GET OUT NOW! WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!”

…It’s actually quite amusing. We’ve weathered worse storms, and besides all that...we don’t have the money to leave now!

Speaking of weathering storms and church...There has been the biggest stink about the church lately because of an arrest that happened. In the papers they said a local woman was arrested due to ‘carnal knowledge of a juvenile’ which basically means she slept with a 15 year-old boy. They went on to say that the relationship had been going on for about 3 months when the boy confessed to his parents. The article then went on to say that the woman was a 26 year-old mother of 4 and that the families met at our church. Holy. Clucking. Cow! You have never seen so many righteously indignant Christians! They even called our pastor to ask for a comment. He’s all like “I don’t know the situation entirely. It would be wrong for me to comment at this point.” He hadn’t even heard about it till they called him. Now everyone’s depressed because this bright, beautiful young woman, a mother of 4, could face up to 10 years in jail with fines up to $5,000. Everyone loved this girl, but evidently she had a problem.../shrug

Well, that’s enough for this morning’s edition of my useless life. We’ll see what else happens today and if I decide it’s actually worth writing about. Later.
