Yo. I'm not altogether feeling too well today, so I decided to forgo the entry and just post something else I'd written up a while ago. See, there's this thing I discovered on the internet where, you send a list of 10 fandoms to your friends and then your friends guess who your favorite character from that fandom is, and they send it back. You bold whichever answers are correct and explain why that's your favorite character. By the end of my e-mail, my "explanations" looked like essays. So, I figured I’d post the Favorite Fandom, Favorite Character Essay up here...and maybe a small quiz...

MM’s Favorite Fandoms/Favorite Characters Essay
Caution: Spoilers

1. GargoylesDemona – Honestly, what could be said more? Demona. The name strikes cords with even those who know nothing about Gargoyles. But let’s just get to the point of the matter. As a writer, the Demona character is a great element for any story;. Demona, at base, is a villain. Villains cause problems. the basis of most stories is a problem that must be resolved.

But Demona is a complex villain with a legitimate gripe. She claim mostly two things: 1) Humans are the scum of the earth. That’s true for the most part. 2) Humans should be wiped from the face of the earth..here’s where we encounter a problem. Yes, on a certain level, Demona is a genocidal terrorist; but, she’s also a mother who feels a desperate need to connect and protect her daughter. As you can see, she isn’t as I’ve said a ‘simple villain’. Her motivations aren’t entirely evil, but her methods throw her into that lot.

Over a period of 10 centuries, Demona has been hurt over and over again. What she doesn’t see is that her own actions sometimes caused her greatest downfalls. Her heart’s just been hurt too much, and she refuses to place the blame upon herself. Over the centuries of hatred, Demona has learned to back up all that with some serious warrior bad ass. Demona is also very persuasive, even charismatic, when it comes to convincing others of her cause and it’s justifications. Many of my own characters would agree with Demona’s views completely. All of these reasons point back to a character that cannot simply be labeled ‘villain’. (I promise the rest of the answers will not turn into essays -.-)

2. CSIGreg Sanders – Greg Sanders used to be a not so ordinary lab guy. He ran DNA for all the other CSI’s. However, after being exposed to the field, and realizing that the real action wasn’t in his lab, he began to want a promotion to CSI. Greg’s made mistakes and has learned from them, but all the senior CSI’s generally look out for him. He’s hilarious and unorthodox (wearing funky glasses, listening to head banging music, and playing air drums while in his lab), but his love for the job makes up for all his other short comings.

3. Lord of the RingsLegolas – Honestly, what girl hasn’t thought of Legolas as her fav guy in LOTR? He’s handsome, and a warrior (in that elven way) and you know that if you do win his affections it’s not for something shallow. The fact that he’s played by Orlando Bloom in the movies only helps marginally.

4. Pirates of the CaribbeanCapin’ Jack Sparrow – The only thing I like more than a charismatic, charming, and comical good guy, is a charismatic, charming, and comical not so good guy. Let’s face it, being a pirate, Jack’s no angel, but if it came right down to it, I’d rather have him protecting me than that pansy governor! The fact that his voice is utterly amazing as well helps...

5. Kami Kaze Kaitou JeanSinbad – That’s right. Jean’s supposed nemesis. Sinbad is thought to be a bad guy, and let’s face it, he doesn’t exactly fall into the ‘good guy’ category. Either as Sinbad or as his alter ego, he’s just one of those guys that you love being around.

6. RobotechMirriia Perina – Mirriia Perina, self-labeled best warrior of the Zentrati force. She’s rough, she’s tough...she’s vulnerable.. Mirriia is a female Zentrati warrior who mercilessly teases Khyron about being bested by Microneans (humans) again and again in battle. Khyron tells her that there is one of the Microneans who cannot be bested in battle, which ultimately spikes her interest. Mirriia stages an attack to draw him out, and to her utter horror, finds Khyron is quite right. This Micronean cannot be beaten. In utter shame, she requests to be put through the process of becoming a Micronean so that she can spy on the battle fortress, all in hopes of meeting that unbeatable foe again. She meats Max Sterling at an Arcade, where their mecha battle is recreated through their digital characters; worse off, he beats her yet again. Mirriia tries to run off, but Max grabs her and asks if she’d meet him for a date in the park. Max arrives at the park and Mirriia attacks him with a knife. They fight, and Mirriia explains that she is Mirriia Perina, Zentrati Air force, and that she will have her revenge. After a heated battle, Max beats her again! Mirriia falls to her knees and begs Max to end her life, but he tells her he can’t because he thinks he’s fallen in love with her. She asks him what that is, and after a shared kiss he asks her to marry him. Mirriia and Max end up getting married and become the first hope for peace between the Zentrati and Microneans. This by no means changes that she is a warrior, as she and Max now fly together in a fight for peace. Eventually, she and Max have a daughter together, which I believe shows that no matter how ignorant a character can be towards their own emotions, there’s always a way for them to live peacefully, and happily.

7. Gundam WingDuo – Duo Maxwell, Shinigami...I don’t even think I need to go into detail about this one ^.^

8. X-Men & X-men: Evolution (cartoons)Rogue – In the X-Men cartoon, Rogue is a invulnerable powerhouse, her powers are skin contact absorbing, flight, invulnerability, and super strength. She seems like your average southern tough girl, but she’s always plagued with her original power of absorption. Flash to X-men: Evolution. This cartoon’s set during the teenage years of our X-men. We see Rogue as a goth girl, antisocial and with a big take-no-sh*t attitude. She doesn’t have flight or strength, but her character is so ‘my way or start walkin’ it doesn’t matter.

9. Batman (cartoon)Harleen Quinzel a.k.a. Harley Quinn – Harley Quinn is the Joker’s main squeeze. She used to be a psychiatrist (funny that) and after meeting the Joker turned into a killer clown for him. If Harley isn’t with her Puddin’ she’s seen with Pamely Iseley (Poison Ivey). She’s bubbly, and funny, and kinda a dumb blond (considerin’ the Joker would waste her in a second to save his backside) but she’s also very agile, creative, and quite lethal.

10. Spiderman (cartoon)Felicia Harding a.k.a. The Black Cat – Felicia Harding...the girl who had it all. Rich, powerful and beautiful, Felicia is Peter Parker’s first huge crush. She is kidnapped a few times and, of course, saved by Spider man. She thanks him many times by pulling up his mask, without his consent, and locking lips with him. Until she’s kidnapped by the Kingpin because of her father. Felicia’s father, John Hardesky, is kept in SHIELD’s fortress because he, and only he, knows the secret formula that created the famous Captain America. John Hardesky, who is know as The Cat, was known for his amazing agility and memory as a boy. He snuck into the lab to see Captain America being made, and then was hunted by Nazis (and worse) so that they could create their own super soldiers. He eventually gave himself up to SHIELD so that they could keep him, and the world, safe. Unfortunately, the Kingpin kidnapped him, and then his daughter. The Cat was forced to give up the Super Soldier Serum...and worse, he was forced to watch it be used on his only daughter. The Serum being improved by the crazed Doctor Landon, Felicia can now transform from her normal self into her alter ego, the strong and agile super soldier. She dons the name Black Cat, and eventually breaks her father loose from Kingpin, and helps him to be sure that the knowledge of the serum is destroyed. She continues to help Spiderman here and there, but until an old boy fried shows up. She then sets off to Europe, to help him. But I’ll never really forget that flirty minx, with her feminine style, yet enough muscle to bench-press a motor bike.
