2002-Sep-26, Thursday 10:32 amHey Minna. Boy but last night wasn’t the best there was. The winds reached around 40 to 50 miles an hour, and the rain! Oh the rain was terrible I’m sure. Our whole back yard looks like a bunch of little lakes. We even had Tornado warnings. Ok wait. I’m giving too much info at once. Let’s do this story sequence.
Ok yesterday after I got off...I went in Thomas’s old room—Once again Dad’s room—and watched movies. Thomas’s TV is huge, has great surround sound and his VCR is very cool. It can rewind a whole eight hour tape in less than two minutes. Anyway, since my VCR and Remote don’t work so well—give ‘em a break, the sucker’s maybe ten years old—I figured, why should I squint at my little TV, and have to get aggravated at my old VCR when Dad never does anything with that huge TV and absolutely great VCR?
And I found one of the tapes I had loved in Thomas’s room ¬_¬ *sigh* Oh well. Anyway, I watched...The Lion King II, though I’m still not sure why. Then I watched Batman Returns. Then I showed Dad how if he worked the channels through the VCR he’d get all of them instead of 13 and he watched movie about a river...and I moved to the living room and watched half of Batman forever. Then I went to sleep...it was about...12:30...maybe 1.
I know I’ve written in here before about that tin roof Dad put up over the part of the porch that wasn’t covered. It is now covered nicely. But there is one problem. It’s right next to my room. When it’s raining, it’s great, when the wind gusts up to 50 MPH, it gets loud! I mean it sounded like thunder and all...So I woke up around 2:45AM and couldn’t sleep ‘cause not only was there too much noise but I was also hungry. So I tried going back to sleep...but then my ears started hurting...like when you go up high or dived down low you know. And I realized it was ‘cause of the wind pressure pressing against the house. And my empty stomach along with the thing with my ears was making me feel sick so I got up and made myself a sandwich. Dad was watching the weather channel.
Made my sandwich and watched the only thing one can at 2 in the morning; the Weather channel. Well, they were saying that we—those of us in Houma—had a Tornado warning in our area. Now let me just share my feelings on that...I hate tornados...I’ve lived all my life in the threat of Hurricanes, and I have never been scared of them. Tornados make my stomach clench and my heart rate go up and all that jazz. So of course I couldn’t sleep after that—that tin rumbling against itself sometimes sounds like a train you know—and so I just watched the Weather Channel.
Around...3:30 the Tornado warning had gone away and they were warning against floods and flash floods. I was like -.-;;;;;;;;. I mean hello? It’s a freakin’ hurricane, we know the consequences. I guess that was for the people that hadn’t lived in LA for that long. When Andrew came through we were living in my late grandmother’s house and that was right next to a bayou. Some stupid people did something weird. A section of homes had flooded, so they released a dam and flooded ourAnyway, so I got to sleep... oh...somewhere between 3:30 and 4 in the morning. Then mom comes in at 9:45 all “It’s time to get up! ^^” and of course I went from z.z to o.O;;;; Woke up and the house was still here. We had electricity and everything was in tact. We even had a ball in our yard that had a smiley face on it...Dad started calling it Wilson—from Cast Away, that movie with Tom Hanks. No my Dad’s not totally mental—and he put it in a safe place in our yard.
And that brings us to here where I decided after break fast to get on and write. And I guess that’s about all there is to talk about...I’ll write later when I have more info. Ja Minna. That’s all he wrote.
