In the Box

Hey Mina! Tonight was my first night working in the box, and I have to say I love it. And it wasn’t too bad for the first time...at first it was ‘cause the registers were all new and I had come in just when the rush started. But after I learned procedure and all, I was fine. There were a few moments where it was al weird but you know.

Ok let me start off with the whole day though. This morning got up at 7 o’clock sharp. And boy did I not want to crawl out of my nice warm bed. But Mom had to go to the Headache doctor and she didn’t know if they’d want to do a treatment on her or not. If they did she’d need someone to drive. Then they didn’t do the treatment, but they needed to refill her medicine. So when I left for school, I went by Ekards and dropped it off.

School was...School. English was boring and predictable, and Speech was interesting but...kinda boring at the same time. For English we had our spelling test, and went over the next thing of Preposition -.- heh yeah. Then for Speech, we listened to a lot of speeches by Winston Churchill and other people—mostly Churchill though—and then we left. He didn’t even ask us how we were doing really. Not that it would matter…Oh speaking of such things; I have to do some more work on my out line.

Registration is done by the way. I did it and it wasn’t as nightmarish as I thought it’d be. In fact I only have one class this semester. I was a little shocked by that. But I have to take math and key boarding as a primary or I can’t get into the other classes. Only math and keyboarding classes are held at the same time during the day, so the only other time is keyboarding from 5-8 at night! And knowing my schedule and all and how I usually end up working nights I scratched keyboarding off. I’ll just have to do that next semester. And I’m a patient person.

Ok but back to today. Ok so I got out of school, went to the bank and used my ATM card for the first time—worked like a dream, and I hope that’s an omen—and then I stopped by Wal Mart to do a little grocery shopping for Mom. She’d given me the credit card to put her medicine on and said to put the groceries we needed on it too. So I got some things, then swung into Burger King and got two burgers—one for now one for later—and even though it was 1:36 it actually didn’t take them forever to get my food. I was impressed. Ok then I hit Ekards and then home. By the time I got home I was starving and tired. Mom told me that Reiko had called for me, but I knew I had to eat first. So I ate and then I was like dozing off, and by the time I pulled myself out of it, it was time to get ready for work O.o

So I got ready for work and then went over there. Got there and clocked in. Got in box and it was a fiasco. I couldn’t log on, we had to call Jeremy, he gave me a new log on number—which I’ve forgotten most of at this time—then I had logged on but knew nothing about how to use the darn thing—they got us new registers and it’s all touch screen, very nice but plenty complicated—so finally things settled down a bit. And things started moving a bit more slowly and I had time to ask questions and learn at my own pace.

Then came the fun parts. Cass was working with me, along with our shift lead Jean, and she’s a wild girl. She started to get board so she starts shooting rubber bands out the small little window for entertainment...Then some customers come by—three guys—and they get their tickets and stand around outside box for a while. And she still keeps shooting the rubber bands. And finally one of the guys notices and starts shooting them back! It was so funny. Found out his name is Jeremy. The boys ended up having to leave though, so they got refunds for their tickets and he said he’d be back tomorrow.

Then while it was slow, this guy walks up with his...girl friend? Wife? Female companion?—and he says,

“I need two tickets to Friday After Next and I need to ask you a personal question...” So I’m like,

“Ok.” And he says,

“Do you buy lottery tickets?” and I’m like,

“No sir...” and he informs me,

“Well, you know it’s up to nineteen million?” to which I reply,

“I will keep that in mind, Sir.” And so I tell him the price of his tickets and he’s like,

“Hmm, just let me find the rest of the money. I hope I have it.” And so I say,

“We have dishes in the back if you don’t.” So yeah today was a lot of fun. Once I actually got comfortable I actually got a chance to joke with the customers. Like for instance this one buys two tickets and when I tell him the price he says,

“That’s highway robbery!” and I calmly reply,

“Well, if you’d like you could donate you’re left kidney...” and of course he’s all like,

“Hmm...No~oo I think I’ll pay.” Some people have no sense of adventure. So box was great once I got used to it. Plus I actually got to sit down when I got tired. And I saw Stacey and Brandon, though they didn’t go to a movie. Oh! And, I had to tally my own drawer and I was only $1.50 short! Jeremy said that was like a miracle. I was kinda proud, but I didn’t want to show it.

Tomorrow I work 6:30-11 just like I did tonight and it’ll probably be even busier. But in the morning Mom and I are going to Books A Million since they’re having a sale.

I also wanna cash my check and get some money orders for the things I have in my Amazon.com cart. And plus I got some Christmas shopping to do! Heh! Ok so that’s all for now since it’s really late, and I’m really tired. I’ll write later Mina. That’s all she wrote.

MM

PS I really miss my Twin-san ;_;
