Yo. So, today was...slightly stressful. At least it could be, if I let it. Mom goes into panic mode every now and then (switching the weather channel on every hour on the hour can do that), and it’s easy to put your faith in the woman who raised you...

But then I remind myself of the time she wanted to get those California Closets for me or the time she wanted to put that straightener in my hair. Both times it was like, “Oh we’ll do that and it’ll be easy. We can take car of it!” and she makes you believe that she knows what she’s talking about. About 10 minutes into it, she realizes her mistake and says, “Well you should’ve known that I couldn’t do this!” and gives up...Because of those two situations alone, I am less likely to believe everything she says. /grin.

So anyway! Today we tried to forget about Rita...or were checking to see where she was, which made it extremely hard to forget about her. She went north, she went west, she went northwest, she was cat. 5, she was cat. 4, she was a very very strong cat. 4, she’ll hit Thursday afternoon, she’ll hit Friday night, she’ll hit Saturday morning, etc etc. The storms huge though. I mean she’s over half-way through the gulf and she’s still not finished with Florida. It’s another instance where “It doesn’t matter where the eye is, this storm’s so big it’ll be hitting miles out from where the worst damage is being done.” I just hope it keeps going towards the west. We’ve had enough with super hurricanes, thank you. It’s now time for the only state in the gulf that wasn’t affected by Katrina to take its share in the hurricane season. Oh but wait! Hurricane season isn’t over yet!

However, today’s weather was extremely pleasant. It was moderately cool (or bearable) with a nice breeze. It rained occasionally, and I love rain and thunder, so that never bothers me. You could hardly tell that a hurricane’s coming...oh wait! It’s never this nice this time of year in South LA, so of course that’d mean something was causing the unnatural pleasantness.

One good thing about this is that it causes Mom to really go into “move mode” as I call it. She’s muttered, griped, and sighed at least 11 times within the last 2 days “I can’t wait till we can move to Tennessee.” I know it’ll be over a year before we actually do get to the whole moving part, but with her talking about it so much, it feels like it’s more real. Dad’s just as enthusiastic about moving too. Since the last few hurricanes came through and destroyed the barriers that we had protecting our cost, Dad’s been talking more seriously about moving farther north.

Speaking of dear-old Dad. We got a call from him last night. He will not be coming home tomorrow; he’s decided to stay out and work an extra week. I was a bit bummed, but he pointed out that we did nee the extra money for a few things. Plus, Mom said she’d be worried if they were flying into Lafayette with that hurricane still in the gulf or...doing whatever it decides to do. I talked to him for a while, and he said he’d be working an extra week, and I said

“Good, we’ll be able to pay off your eye surgery.” And there was a pause and he said,

“And we’ll be able to buy you a new computer.”

Boy...once he decides something, it’s decided. I’ve told him that I don’t mind waiting on the computer if I have to, but he’s determined to get me one before year’s end. Not that I’m complaining...it’s just I don’t need a computer as much as we need to pay off some of our bills. But he says we can pay off bills with his normal paycheck so it’s ok to get this with the extra. /shrug.

CSI was all new tonight and the start of the new season. I was so happy to see it too...even though I went threw one of those incredibly grossed-out, eww-trembling seasons at one point...But it’s just the whole ‘Break in the monotony’ thing again. I’m glad to have something to look forward too. Now that they say the Hurricane won’t come in till Saturday, maybe I’ll get to see Threshold tomorrow without fear of the cable going out....Here’s hoping.

I guess that’s all for tonight. I will now go to bed and try to sleep.

Oh, speaking of sleep! We found out that one of the ladies that goes to our church was taken into the Urgent Care center a few nights ago. All the glands around her neck were swollen. She said her throat felt swollen and it was hard to swallow and she was...well, pardon the crude terms but, chocked full of mucus. The doctor asked her if she was taking anything regularly, and she said,

“Yeah, Tylenol PMs for insomnia.” And he was like,

“Well, Tylenol PM causes an increase production in mucus, and it seems your mucus glands have become...clogged.”

Well, I’ve been complaining of a swollen, soar throat for the last three nights...This bottle of Tylenol PMs will be my last. I’m graduating to Unisom. Fellow Tylenol PM users, beware!

Ok, now I’m really closing this entry. Goodnight.
